Garden Renewal Project

The A.J.A Gardner Lawn is a deeply meaningful place for many families. To ensure this area remains a welcoming space in the future, we are carrying out carefully planned garden renewal works.

What's changing and why

Over time, some of the existing shrubs in the garden beds have grown larger than intended. This has made some plaques harder to see and required frequent pruning.

To improve this space, we will:

  • Replace overgrown shrubs with a curated selection of flowering tall standard trees
  • Lift and level plaques where needed
  • Refresh garden beds with new mulch

We understand how important this space is to families, and every change is made with care, respect and long-term thoughtfulness.  This garden renewal is focused on creating a setting that feels open, calm and beautiful throughout the year, while ensuring plaques remain clearly visible and accessible for families visiting their loved ones.

Delivering with safety in mind

To allow our teams to safely complete these works, we ask that holders of right in this area collect any personal items and mementos placed near plaques or within the garden beds by Sunday 17 May 2026.

We understand how meaningful these tributes can be to family members. If you are unable to visit, our team will carefully collect, label and safely store items on your behalf. Mementos will be placed in archive boxes for collection during office hours, and living tributes such as pot plants will be placed adjacent to the Children's Lawn.

If you would like to book a time to collect any mementos in storage, please contact our customer service team on 1300 466 904.

Timeline

Works are expected to begin on Monday 18 May 2026. The project will take approximately 8 weeks to complete.

Throughout this time, regular updates will be available on this page, and our team will ensure the AJA Gardner Lawn remains safe, respectful and tidy for visitors.

A Garden for All Seasons

The new plantings are selected for their suitability to local conditions and their ability to provide gentle colour throughout the year.

Late Winter
New foliage, flowers and buds bring warmth and light.

Spring
Cascades of white and pink blossom create a soft floral canopy.

Summer
Fresh green foliage and flowering grevilleas provide colour and life.

Autumn
Warm seasonal tones appear before leaves gently fall from deciduous trees.

Winter
Grevilleas maintain structure and colour, while sculptural branches allow sunlight to reach plaques.

Some trees are deciduous, meaning they lose their leaves in autumn and allow more winter sunlight through. Others are evergreen, keeping their foliage year-round so the garden never feels bare. Together, this balance ensures beauty and comfort in every season.
